General description
Triethylamine (TEA), also known as N,N-Diethylethanamine, is an aliphatic tertiary amine and a volatile organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a strong ammonia-like odor and exhibits polar solvent characteristics, although it is less polar than many common laboratory solvents. Triethylamine is used in various industrial processes, including oxidation, reduction, elimination, and dehydrohalogenation reactions.
Application
Triethylamine (TEA) is used
- As a mobile phase modifier to improve the efficiency of separation in micellar liquid chromatography (MLC).
- To prepare the mobile phase for HPLC chromatography
- As the extractant in a hexane solution to extract nickel (Ni) ions from water.
