General description
1,2-Propanediol, a 1,2-alkanediol is an industrially important chemical. Due to its increasing demand many green methods have been proposed for its synthesis mainly using the inexpensive glycerol as the starting material. It is a raw material for the synthesis of intermediates, building blocks and polymers.
Application
1,2-Propanediol may be used in the following processes:
- Green synthesis of propylene carbonate.
- Production of lactic acid by green catalytic oxidation.
- Propanal generation by catalytic dehydration.
