General description

2-Phenethylamine belongs to the class of biogenic amines, commonly found in a variety of wines, food products and also in dietary supplements.
2-Phenethylamine is commonly known as a substructure of many biological active compounds. It can also be used in the synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives, via Pictet-Spengler reaction, which is one of the key reactions for construction of the isoquinoline skeleton, involving a naturally occurring bioactive compound.

Application

2-Phenethylamine may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in wine samples and food products using high-performance liquid chromatography technique.
