Phloroglucinol displays antispasmodic activity. Phloroglucinol (PG) is a biosynthetic precursor of the 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) an antibiotic against soil-borne diseases. Phloroglucinol is a useful intermediate because it is polyfunctional.
