General description
HEPES sodium salt is essential to prepare HEPES buffer that is commonly used for cell culture and protein applications. It is useful for maintaining homeostasis when working with cells outside of the incubator by balancing CO2. HEPES buffering capacity exceeds most buffers, with a pKa of 7.5, making it optimal for maintaining pH in biological systems. In solution, it is non-toxic, zwitterion with a physiological buffering range of pH 6.8 - 8.2. It has a low metal binding capacity and is safe to use in research for metal-binding proteins.
