General description

Picric acid (PA, 2,4,6-trinitrophenol) is a polynitrated aromatic acid. It is strongly acidic in nature. Since it readily dissolves in water, it can easily pollute the environment on exposure. Sensitive detection of PA by tris-imidazolium salt, fluorescent [3+2] self-assembled nanoscopic organic cage and rhodamine based sensors have been reported. It is widely used for the determination of various organic compounds by spectrophotometric and extractive spectrophotometric methods.

Application

Picric acid has been used in the preparation of Bouin′s fixative and picric acid/sodium azide/multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
Picric acid was used in the quantitative determination of bisoprolol.
