Application

Octanoic acid can be used as a reactant:
  • In the SnO/TiO2 catalyzed esterification with polyols to synthesize lubricating esters.
  • To synthesize amides using primary and secondary amines in the presence of a biocatalyst.
It can also be used as a catalyst for oxidizing sulfides into their corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones with H2O2 as the oxidant.
