General description

Cytokines are immunomodulatory polypeptides that play key roles in both adaptive and innate immune responses. One of the regulatory mechanisms of the immune system, cytokines act at the recognition, activation, or effector phases of an immune response, modulating the development and functional activities of the subtypes of T cells, B cells and myeloid cells. Consequently, research involving cytokines plays a significant role in achieving a deeper understanding of the immune system and its multi-faceted response to most antigens, especially those responses that make up the inflammatory process. Low levels of inflammation are involved in many sub-clinical disease states, such as autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurological disorders, and cancer. Measuring picogram levels of cytokines, therefore, is critical for understanding the pathogenesis of these diseases.

Application

MILLIPLEX® Qualified assays undergo rigorous assay development, verification, and Quality Control testing to achieve optimal performance. Simultaneously analyze 13 analytes in human serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.

Analytes included: GM-CSF, IFNγ, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12 (p70), IL-13, TNF-α

Assay Characteristics: Refer to kit protocol for assay cross-reactivity, sensitivity, precision, and accuracy.

Features and Benefits

  • High Sensitivity Detection: Detects cytokines at picogram levels (as low as 0.11 pg/mL), ideal for low-abundance biomarkers in cell culture supernatants.
  • Robust Data Quality: High accuracy and low variability ensure confidence in results.
  • Pro- vs. Anti-Inflammatory Balance: Simultaneously profile TNF-α (pro-inflammatory) and IL-10 (anti-inflammatory) to evaluate immune equilibrium shifts in sepsis, autoimmune disease, or aging.
  • Low Sample Volume Requirement: Requires only 25 µL of sample per well, preserving rare or limited-volume specimens.
