Application

Le glycérol est utilisé dans la préparation d'échantillons et la formation de gels pour électrophorèse sur gel de polyacrylamide. Le glycérol (à 5 % à 10 %) augmente la densité d'un échantillon pour qu'il se dépose en couche au fond du puits à échantillon creusé dans un gel. Il peut également faciliter le coulage des gels de gradient ou entrer dans la composition de stabilisateurs de protéines et de tampons de conservation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Le glycérol a été utilisé :
  • comme supplément pour la culture de Mycobacterium tuberculosis et de Mycobacterium avium
  • comme combustible pour la conception d'une pile à biocombustible (biofuel cell) enzymatique
  • comme matrice composite liquide avec du 4-HCCA et de la 3-aminoquinoléine pour l'analyse des glycanes neutres et acides
  • comme matrice pour la spectrométrie de masse par bombardement atomique rapide (FAB-MS)
  • éventuellement comme matrice liquide pour des études de quantification par spectrométrie de masse par désorption/ionisation laser assistées par matrice (MALDI-MS)
Le glycérol est de nature hygroscopique et il est soluble dans l'eau grâce à ses trois groupements hydroxyle alcoolique hydrophiles. Il peut former des liaisons hydrogène aussi bien intermoléculaires qu'intramoléculaires, ce qui en fait une molécule particulièrement flexible. Son effet physiologique est lié à l'immunité cellulaire, à l'augmentation de la production d'IgG et à l'accroissement de la libération d'histamine.

General description

Le glycérol se présente sous forme d'un liquide visqueux, incolore et inodore au goût sucré. Il est naturellement présent dans la nature ou peut être fabriqué à partir de ressources pétrochimiques. Le glycérol est utilisé dans une multitude d'applications ; c'est l'une des substances chimiques naturelles les plus utiles et les plus polyvalentes. Il peut servir d'émollient, de solvant, d'édulcorant, aussi bien dans les préparations pharmaceutiques et cosmétiques que dans les aliments ou les produits de toilette. Il est extrêmement stable et se conserve facilement à température normale. Il est en outre non irritant et n'a aucun effet néfaste sur l'environnement.
