General description
Sulfuric acid is a strong mineral acid, that is commonly used in organic synthesis as a reagent, catalyst, and solvent. It is also useful to perform several functions, including dehydration, sulfonation, and nitration.
Application
Sulfuric acid is used:
- As a catalyst in the esterification of acetic and palmitic acid.
- As a solvent in the synthesis of binary technetium sulfide via the reaction of pertechnetate and hydrogen sulfide.
- As a dehydrating agent, catalyst, and active reactant in the chemical industry.
- To prepare silica-sulfuric acid composite, which is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis.
