Application

La transferrina humana se ha utilizado:
  • para incubar las células de los túbulos proximales humanos (HKC) - 8 junto con IgG para examinar la especificidad de la albúmina
  • como suplemento en medio que contiene suero o que está desprovisto de suero para el cultivo de células tiroideas humanas
  • como glucoproteínas específicas para desarrollar un método de hidrazinólisis en gel

Biochem/physiol Actions

La transferrina media el transporte de hierro desde el plasma hasta las células. La transferrina de unión al hierro se presenta en tres formas: transferrina monoférrica, transferrina A/B y transferrina diférrica. La transferrina se une a receptores específicos de la superficie celular y el complejo se internaliza por endocitosis. Una vez en el interior, el hierro es liberado en las células y la transferrina sin hierro, también conocida como apotransferrina, es exocitada fuera de la célula sin degradar. Se sabe que la transferrina suministra hierro a las células de una manera fisiológicamente inocua y eficaz.
