General description

YAP1 transcription factor is known to regulate the response to oxidative stress in S. cerevisiae. YAP1 is activated by increased levels of reactive oxygen species and moves quickly to the nucleus where it regulates the expression of up to 70 genes. Intramolecular disulphide bond formation is thought to be the mechanism of transcription factor control in YAP1. Tumor suppressor RASSF1A releases YAP1, which is then free to interact with p73 and transcription of pro-apoptotic puma begins. In the skin, YAP1 is the transcriptional effector of the Hippo signaling pathway and acts as the determinant of proliferative capacity of epidermal stem cells.
