General description

Carbohydrate
Starch is generally composed of two molecule types: amylose and amylopectin. Starch and modified starches are important excipients. They act as fillers/binders.

Application

Starch has been used:
  • as a component in modified Columbia agar (MCA) to culture and isolate bacterial colonies
  • in validation studies for determining molar substitution of hydroxyethylstarches (HES) by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy
  • as a substrate in anaerobic batch experiments to study the effect of carbohydrates on protein hydrolysis
