General description
ReadyTube® is ready to use media to provide the highest level of quality and testing confidence for improving accuracy and significantly reducing the risk of false results. ReadyTube® Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar is used for the detection and colony counting of coliform bacteria. The enzymatic digest of animal tissues and yeast extract provide nitrogenous compounds and other nutrients essential for bacterial metabolism. This media is selective due to the presence of the bile salts and crystal violet. Crystal violet inhibits Gram-positive organisms, especially Staphylococci. Neutral red indicator helps to detect lactose fermentation. Lactose fermenting strains grow red or pink and are surrounded by a zone of acid precipitated bile. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium in the medium. The red color is due to absorption of neutral red and a subsequent color change of the dye when the pH of the medium falls below 6.8.
Application
ReadyTube® Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar is recommended for the detection and enumeration of coliform organisms in water, milk, dairy, and other food products.
