General description

Recombinant rat interferon-γ (IFN-γ) expressed in E. coli as a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide containing 135 amino acids. Purified by chromatographic methods. IFN-γ is a type II cytokine produced by activated T cells and natural killer cells. It plays a significant role immunoregulation and has been implicated in the induction of the expression of class II histocompatibility molecules in cells that do not normally express them, resulting in autoimmune disease.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Reported as U/mg on a lot-specific basis using a cytopathic affect inhibition assay with NIH/3T3 cells challenged with EMC virus.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.5X PBS, pH 7.2.

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, refrigerate (4°C) for short-term storage or aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long-term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 7 days at 4°C or for up to 4 months at -20°C. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles of solutions.
Reconstitute with sterile water to ≥100 µg/ml, containing 0.1% HSA or BSA. Further dilute with aqueous buffers just prior to use.
