General description

Highly purified preparation of an altered form of human PAI-1 containing four mutated amino acids. Mutant PAI-1 is virtually unable to go latent and is stable at elevated temperature and pH for extended periods of time (t½ = 145 hours at 37°C, pH 7.4). Inhibits uPA (Ki = 5.1 x 106 M-1 sec-1) and tPA (Ki = 7.9 x 105 M-1 sec-1).

Moderate stress increases memory and facilitates adaptation. In contrast, intense stress can induce pathological memories as observed in post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD). A shift in the balance between the expression of tPA and PAI-1 proteins is responsible for this transition.
