General description

A fluoroquinolone antibacterial compound that displays antitumor properties. Shown to bind to the miRNA biosynthesis protein TAR RNA-binding protein 2 (TRBP; Kd = 12.56 µM), enhance RNAi and stimulate miRNA expression. Specifically induces cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis in a panel of 12-cancer cells (EC50 of 124 µM in HCT-116 cells) and suppresses tumor growth in a xenograft mouse model (10 mg/kg, i.p.).
