General description
A lipophilic, nontoxic, water-soluble styrylpyridinium red fluoroprobe that is useful for staining active recycling synaptic vesicles. Also useful for studying endocytosis, membrane turnover, and identifying cell membrane boundaries. This compound is non-fluorescent in aqueous solution, but becomes fluorescent when incorporated into the plasma membrane. Reversible, photostable material that does not diffuse out of internalized vesicles. Can also be used in combination with the SynaptoGreen™ (Cat. No. 574798) to image plasma membranes independently in two colors. Excitation max.: 538-548 nm; emission max.: ~735 nm.
