Pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a nuclear receptor and is similar in form to PPAR and RXR. PXR is activated by a large number of endogenous and exogenous chemicals including steroids and antibiotics. One of the key roles of PXR is the induction of CYP3A4, an P450 enzyme that is responsible for the metabolism of many drugs.
