General description
Zinc finger MYM-type protein 2 (UniProt: Q9UBW7; also known as Fused in myeloproliferative disorders protein; Rearranged in atypical myeloproliferative disorder protein; Zinc finger protein 198) is encoded by the ZMYM2 (also known as FIM, RAMP, ZNF198) gene (Gene ID: 7750) in human. Zinc finger MYM-type protein 2 is a nuclear protein that may function as a transcription factor. Two isoforms of Zinc finger MYM-type protein 2 have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. The SUMO-interacting motifs (SIM) of Zinc finger MYM-type protein 2 are shown to be essential for its recruitment to chromatin. The SIM motifs play an important role in its gene-regulatory activities, however, they are not required for the intrinsic transcriptional repressive properties of Zinc finger MYM-type protein 2. A chromosomal aberration involving ZMYM2 is reported to cause stem cell leukemia lymphoma syndrome (SCLL), which is characterized as lymphoblastic lymphoma in association with a myeloproliferative disorder accompanied by pronounced peripheral eosinophilia and/or prominent eosinophilic infiltrates in the affected bone marrow.
