General description
PI is used for selective labelling of dead cells.
Propidium iodide is a fluorescent intercalating agent used for staining. It functions as an apoptosis marker and has linear DNA-binding capacity. Propidium iodide is an effective indicator of tissue injury.
Application
Propidium iodide has been used:
- to stain DNA in cell cycle analysis
- to stain cells and cell nuclei
- for the preparation of propidium iodide (PI)stock solution
- to stain cells for flow cytometry
in scrape-loading dye transfer assay
