Application

Dextrose has been used:
  • as a component in a basic medium to incubate goat mammary epithelial cells (GMEC) for glucose stimulation
  • in mice to perform glucose-stimulated insulin secretion test (IST) and to quantify serum insulin by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • to perform glucose tolerance test (GTT) in thermoneutral (TN) and heat-stressed (HS) dairy ewes to study its effects on the feed intake

A hallmark of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the development of pancreatic β cell failure, which results in insulinopenia and hyperglycemia. We show that the adipokine adipsin has a beneficial role in maintaining β cell function. Animals genetically lacking

Cytokines of the IL-1 family are important modulators of obesity-induced inflammation and the development of systemic insulin resistance. Here we show that IL-1 family member IL-37, recently characterized as an anti-inflammatory cytokine, ameliorates obesity-induced inflammation and insulin resistance. Mice transgenic
