General description

Sodium azide (NaN3) is an inorganic azide. It is widely used as an active ingredient in automobile airbag inflators. It is also used in detonators and explosives.

Application

Sodium azide can be used as:
  • A component of a preservative named azidiol (a mixture of chloramphenicol and NaN3), which is used in preserving raw milk in the dairy industry.
  • A biocide to prevent deterioration of cane juice in sugar industries.
