Description

General description

Sodium azide (NaN₃) is an inorganic azide. It is widely used as an active ingredient in automobile airbag inflators. It is also used in detonators and explosives.

Application

Sodium azide can be used as:

A component of a preservative named azidiol (a mixture of chloramphenicol and NaN₃), which is used in preserving raw milk in the dairy industry.
A biocide to prevent deterioration of cane juice in sugar industries.
