General description
PVALB (parvalbumin) is a classical small member of the low molecular weight, acidic protein family known as calcium binding proteins (CaBPs) EF-hand superfamily. This protein shows a restricted pattern of expression in brain and muscle. It is a cytoplasmic high affinity CaBP.
Monoclonal Anti-Parvalbumin (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the PARV-19 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from an immunized mouse. Parvalbumin is a calcium-binding protein.

Immunogen
Frog muscle parvalbumin.
Application
Monoclonal Anti-Parvalbumin antibody produced in mouse has been used for immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and immunofluorescence.
Biochem/physiol Actions
PVALB (parvalbumin) protein modulates relaxation in fast contracting muscles, where it localizes to type II (fast-twitch) mammalian skeletal muscle fibres in small mammals. This protein is a crucial regulator of neuronal intracellular calcium dynamics. PVALB protein maintains synaptic transmission during bursts, where it prevents presynaptic Ca2+ accumulation and hence the harmful effects of excess presynaptic Ca2+ levels. It also maintains synaptic transmission by allowing for linear information processing post-synaptically by preventing cumulative neuronal facilitation.
PVALB (parvalbumin) expression serves as marker for differentiating tumors as benign and malignant, in relation with thyroid lesions. Decreased expression of parvalbumin positive interneurons in rat model is associated with schizophrenia, and is known to disturb neuronal activity.

Recognizes parvalbumin in a Ca2+ ion-dependent manner. Does not react with other members of the EF-hand family such as calmodulin, intestinal calcium-binding protein, S100A2 (S100L), S100A6 (calcyclin), the α chain of S-100 (i.e. in S-100a and S-100ao), or the β chain (i.e. in S-100a and S-100b).

Preparation Note
For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month.
For extended storage freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Storage in "frost-free" freezers is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use.
