Application
Various concentrations of Deoxyribonucleic acid, low molecular weight, from salmon sperm has been used:
- to study DNA binding to silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite nanocrystals.
- in simple electrochemical DNA biosensors to detect and evaluate DNA damage caused by UV-C radiation and reactive oxygen species.
- as a precursor in the synthesis of the bio-dots.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Salmon sperm DNA is often used as a blocking agent invarious research applications. It isknown to improve the specificity and sensitivity of the multi-AP assay byreducing non-specific binding and background signal.

A simple electrochemical DNA biosensor based on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was prepared by adsorbing double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) onto the GCE surface and subsequently used for the detection of dsDNA damage induced by hydroxyl radicals. Investigation of the mutual

LPS is well recognized for its potent capacity to activate mouse macrophages to produce TNF-alpha, an important inflammatory mediator in bacterial infection-related diseases such as septic shock. We demonstrate here that while inducing only low levels of TNF-alpha alone, DNA
