Application

Developed for the culture of Drosophila cell lines.
Shields and Sang M3 Insect Medium has been used:
  • for the dissection of Drosophila larvae to study the changes in the translational activity of larval wing imaginal disc cells
  • to incubate Drosophila bodies for surface sensing of translation (SUnSET) assay
  • to culture Drosophila cells for transfection studies

General description

Shields and Sang M3 insect medium can support the rapid growth of both primary and established cultures of Drosophila melanogaster cells. Insect tissue culture media have been formulated to mimic the main properties of the hemolymph of specific insects.

Cilia are cellular antennae that are essential for human development and physiology. A large number of genetic disorders linked to cilium dysfunction are associated with proteins that localize to the ciliary transition zone (TZ), a structure at the base of

BEAF (Boundary Element-Associated Factor) was originally identified as a Drosophila melanogaster chromatin domain insulator-binding protein, suggesting a role in gene regulation through chromatin organization and dynamics. Genome-wide mapping found that BEAF usually binds near transcription start sites, often of housekeeping

Spermatogenesis in many species including Drosophila melanogaster is accompanied by major reorganisation of chromatin in post-meiotic stages, involving a nearly genome-wide displacement of histones by protamines, Mst77F and Protamine-like 99C. A proposed prerequisite for the histone-to-protamine transition is massive histone
