General description

Dodecanoic acid is a saturated fatty acid used as a starting material or intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals.

Application

Dodecanoic acid has been used as a reagent to synthesize MnFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles by seed mediated growth method. It can undergo esterification with 2-ethylhexanol in the presence of sulfated zirconia catalyst to form 2-ethylhexanoldodecanoate, a biodiesel.
