General description
Phosphate buffered saline with TWEEN® 20, or PBS-T, is primarily used in immunoassays as a washing and blocking buffer. The phosphate buffer maintains a stable pH 7.4, suitable for many biological reactions and assays. The salt or saline solution in PBS-T provides the necessary ionic strength for optimal protein solubility and stability. The addition of 0.05% TWEEN 20, a non-ionic detergent, helps reduce background signals by blocking non-specific binding sites on proteins. PBS-T buffer enhances the washing efficiency by removing unwanted substances and limits non-specific antibody binding sites, while preserving the integrity of the target proteins.
