Gene Information

human ... OTUB2(78990)

General description

OTU ubiquitin aldehyde binding 2 (OTUB2) is a de-ubiquitinating enzyme, which belongs to the ovarian tumor protease (OTU) subfamily of deubiquitinylases. It has an ovarian tumor (OTU) domain. OTUB2 gene is mapped to human chromosome 14q32.

Immunogen

OTUB2 (NP_075601.1, 1 a.a. ~ 234 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

OTU ubiquitin aldehyde binding 2 (OTUB2) possesses deubiquitinating enzymes (DUB) activity. It is capable of cleaving polyubiquitin chains, that are differently linked. It plays an important role in regulating the degradation of GLI family zinc finger 2 (Gli2) protein. OTUB2 can inhibit the death of human β cells. It is involved in immunity and viral infection. This protein can modulate nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway. OTUB2 might be associated with endometrial cancer.

The evolution of genomic imprinting, the parental-origin specific expression of genes, is the subject of much debate. There are several theories to account for how the mechanism evolved including the hypothesis that it was driven by the evolution of X-inactivation
