Application

Citric acid was used as a test reagent for studying whether the novel pyridazinylpiperazine analog TPRV-1 inhibitor can reduce cough reflex induced by citric acid and capsaicin in guinea pig.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Citric acid in dietary form can augments absorption of aluminium in antacids. It also facilitates the phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soil and can transform cadmium into more transportable forms.

P Slanina et al.
Clinical chemistry, 32(3), 539-541 (1986-03-01)
Ten healthy men ingested, twice daily between meals, during each of the seven-day experimental periods: (a) citric acid (as lemon juice), (b) Al(OH)3, or (c) Al(OH)3 + citric acid. Whole blood sampled after each dietary period was analyzed electrothermally after
Y X Chen et al.
Chemosphere, 50(6), 807-811 (2003-04-12)
Adsorption and hydroponics experiments were conducted to study the role of citric acid on the phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soil. The results show that addition of citric acid decreased the adsorption of both lead and cadmium, such an effect
Sum Yee Leung et al.
Cough (London, England), 3, 10-10 (2007-12-25)
Cough reflex can be induced by the pepper extract capsaicin and by low pH in guinea-pig airways. Transient receptor potential vanniloid-1 (TPRV-1) is expressed in the sensory and afferent nerve fibres in airways. We hypothesized that a novel pyridazinylpiperazine analog
