Application

Hydrogen peroxide solution has been used:
  • To prepare a sterilant solution along with peracetic acid that is employed in a novel wash process for bone allograft.
  • In combination with 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine dihydrochloride (TMB) to prepare horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated gold nanoparticles (GNPs).
  • For the immunostaining of NeuN (a soluble nuclear protein) expressing neurons.

General description

The product is a 30% solution of hydrogen peroxide in water. Hydrogen peroxide is more commonly being used as a green oxidizing agent. It is a better alternative to other oxidants because it has high active oxygen content and by-product is water. This product is a high quality pharmacopoeia product that meets the testing specifications of USP (United States Pharmacopoeia). It can be employed in research and pilot studies.
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for catalysis. Click here for more information.

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. What's the molarity of Product H3410, Hydrogen Peroxide Concentrate (H2O2) as sold?

If we assume an H2O2 concentration of 30% (w/w) and a density of 1.11 g/mL, then the approximate molarity is 9.8 M. You may use the exact concentration of the lot to calculate molarity more precisely. This product is 29.0% to 32.0 % (w/w).

  4. I heard that there is a way to calculate the concentration of Product H3410, Hydrogen Peroxide Concentrate (H2O2) with a spectrophotometer.  How do I do this?

You can use the molar extinction coefficient of H2O2, which is 43.6 M-1cm-1at 240 nm.  Using the Beer-Lambert Law, A = ebc where e = the molar extinction coefficient, b = the path length of the cuvette in cm, and c = molar concentration, you can solve for "c" based on the absorbance you get for a H2O2 solution. If you dilute your solution with a solvent to get an absorbance reading within the capabilities of your spectrophotometer, include the dilution factor in your calculations, and correct your absorbance reading with any absorbance reading contributed by the solvent itself.

  5. My bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide always arrives leaking.  Why is this?

According to US Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, concentrated hydrogen peroxide must be shipped in bottles with vented caps.  This is because H2O2 disproportionates to H2O and O2 which can cause pressure buildup.  Because the bottles have vented caps, we cannot guarantee that there will be no leakage.  The only way to obtain hydrogen peroxide with a sealed cap is to purchase the 3% solution (e.g., Product No. 323381).

  6. How do I find price and availability?
