Skim Milk Powder is recommended for cultivation and enumeration of microorganisms encountered in dairy industry
General description
Skim Milk powder is used for the demonstration of coagulation and proteolysis of casein. Skim Milk is sometimes used as a complete medium or as an ingredient in other media used for the propagation of organisms occurring in milk products. The addition of skim milk to any nutrient-rich medium creates favorable conditions for the growth of organisms, which are encountered in milk. The number of bacteria isolated thus is more than the number of organisms isolated on a regular medium. Proteolytic bacteria hydrolyze casein to form soluble nitrogenous compounds indicated as a clear zone surrounding the colonies on the agar medium. Skim milk serves as a good source of casein

Preparation Note
Mix the powder to a smooth paste with a small quantity of distilled water, then gradually add more distilled water until a 10% w/v mixture is obtained. This is equivalent to fresh milk, and may be sterilized by autoclaving for 5 minutes at 121 °C. Care should be taken not to overheat during sterilization, otherwise caramelization will occur.

miR‑223‑3p is deregulated in several tumor types and plays an important role in tumorigenesis and progression. However, its role in the pathogenesis of testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) remains uncharacterized. We previously demonstrated that miR‑223‑3p expression was increased in TGCTs

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of small non-coding executor RNAs. Their function as key modulators of cellular senescence has been widely recognized recently. By cross-comparing several human aging models we previously identified dozens of miRNAs being differentially regulated during aging.
