General description
Sodium nitroferricyanide(III) dihydrate (sodium nitroprusside dihydrate, SNP) is a dihydrate form of sodium nitroprusside. It is comprised of ferrous iron complexed with nitric oxide (NO) and five cyanide ions. It serves as a donor of nitric oxide.
Application
Sodium nitroferricyanide(III) dihydrate can be used as a reagent to produce nitric oxide radicals (NO) via UV radiation-induced photolysis. These radicals are employed for the construction of amino acid-based supramolecular hydrogels, which find potential applications in disease diagnosis and therapy including bioimaging, bio-detection, therapeutic delivery, and tissue engineering. Additionally, SNP also serves as a catalyst in the Phenate Method for the quantitative measurement of ammonia in water samples.

In vivo, uterine perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) potentiates uterine artery blood flow in pregnant rats, although not in non-pregnant rats. In isolated preparations, uterine PVAT has pro-contractile and anti-dilatory effects on uterine arteries. Pregnancy induces changes in uterine arteries that
