General description

A short chain fatty acid that has been shown to induce apoptosis in colon carcinoma cell lines by a p53-independent pathway. Inhibits c-myc splicing and interferes with signal transduction processes, including the release of Ca2+ from intracellular stores. Reduces histamine-induced calcium mobilization in C6 glioma cells. Down-regulates the activity of the serine/threonine protein kinase casein kinase II in HT29 cells.
