Application

Glutaraldehyde solution has been used as a fixative for transfected adherent monkey kidney fibroblasts (COS-7) cells for electron microscopy studies, human osteosarcoma (U2OS) cells for super-resolution (SR) experiments and for hydrogels for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies.

General description

Glutaraldehyde is a fixative used in electron microscopy. It is a rapidly penetrating fixative and an alternative to the expensive and toxic buffered osmium tetroxide. Glutaraldehyde contains two aldehyde group separated by three methylene bridges. It mediates protein crosslinking at their amino groups.
