General description

Losartan potassium has long lasting effects, and its efficacy is generally increased, when combined with the diuretic co-active hydrochlorothiazide.
Losartan potassium is an antihypertensive drug that is found to be an angiotensin II receptor type 1 blocker. It finds applications in reducing mechanical stress thereby having a control over the condition of cardiac hypertrophy.

Application

Losartan potassium may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in the following:
  • Pharmaceutical formulations using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and UV-spectrophotometric techniques.
  • Rat plasma using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) technique.

Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Losartan potassium is an orally available, potent, and selective competitive angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1) antagonist. Losartan potassium is used for treatment of hypertension.
