General description
3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole is a herbicide effective against weeds especially bermuda and quack grass. It enters plant circulation through roots and is majorly present in the meristem. 3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole inhibits chlorophyll synthesis resulting in chlorotic leaves and albino plants. In addition, it also affects the growth of the plants. It is exploited to destroy unwanted weeds. It is synthesized from aminoguanidine formate and corresponds to a molecular weight of 84 Da.
Application
3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole has been used:
- as an organelle-specific perturbant in human embryonic kidney (HEK293T) cells
- as histidine biosynthesis inhibitor in medium for screening co-transformants from yeast two-hybrid interactions
- for preservation of midgut sample from honey bee
- for the determination of tryptophan in proteins.
