General description

Nickel oxide (NiO) is primarily used in the electronic, optoelectronics, and polymeric industries because of its excellent optical, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical properties. In the semiconductor industry, NiO is used as a p-type intrinsic semiconductor due to its wide bandgap and good chemical stability.

Application

Nickel oxide (NiO) is an attractive material because of its many applications in photocatalysis, batteries, capacitor-inductor devices, micro-supercapacitors, electrochromic, and chemical or temperature sensing devices. It can also be used as a conversion reaction-based anode material for lithium-ion batteries due to its low cost, nontoxicity, and high theoretical ability of ~718 mAh/g. In perovskite solar cells (PSCs), NiO is commonly used as a hole transport material because of its excellent band alignment and thermal/chemical compatibility with PSCs to enhance the power conversion efficiency of the device.
