Liver is a unique organ in displaying a reparative and regenerative response after acute/chronic damage or partial hepatectomy, when all the cell types must proliferate to re-establish the liver mass. The NADPH oxidase NOX4 mediates Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β) actions

Localized drug delivery and uptake can benefit from the combined action of ultrasound and microbubbles at a specific site. Some of the possible mechanisms suggested are vessel poration and/or cell poration, but the exact acoustic parameters that trigger those phenomena

Trans-palmitoleic acid (trans-C16:1 n-7 or trans-Δ9-C16:1, TPA) is believed to improve several metabolic parameters according to epidemiological data. TPA may mainly come from direct intakes: however, data are inconsistent due to its very low amount in foods. Instead, TPA might

The importance of protein phosphatases in the maintenance of cytoskeletal structure is supported by the serious liver injury caused by microcystin-LR, a hepatotoxic inhibitor of type-1 and type-2A serine/threonine protein phosphatases. We used the microcystin-LR-induced cell injury as a model

Major urinary protein (MUP) 1 is a lipocalin family member abundantly secreted into the circulation by the liver. MUP1 binds to lipophilic pheromones and is excreted in urine. Urinary MUP1/pheromone complexes mediate chemical communication in rodents. However, it is unclear
