Dehydrated Culture Media for Use in Pharmaceutical & Cosmetics Plants

Anaerobes or anaerobic microorganisms do not require oxygen for growth, some even requiring its absence for survival. Obligate anaerobes are harmed by the presence of oxygen and resort to fermentation or anaerobic respiration to generate energy. Aerotolerant organisms withstand the presence of oxygen but cannot use it for respiration. They are strictly fermentative. Facultative anaerobes can grow without oxygen, but they can also utilize it if present. In the absence of oxygen they ferment or perform anaerobic respiration, in the presence of oxygen they use aerobic respiration. Anaerobic organisms can be found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans. Some produce potent toxins, such as the tetanus toxin tetanospasmin.

Consistent Quality Media for Cultivation of Anaerobes

For cultivating anaerobic microorganisms in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, Merck’s provides a selection of granulated dehydrated culture media (DCM). It is important to ensure that the work environment and the finished products do not contain harmful levels of aerobic or anaerobic microbes. We provide high quality media for the enrichment, isolation and enumeration of anaerobic microorganisms. These culture media are highly consistent and available in a variety of formulations as dehydrated culture media in the form of granules.

Merck’s uniquely granulated culture media are convenient, safe and meet the highest industry performance standards as stipulated in ISO 11133. The granules cause significantly less dust in the lab than powdered media, leading to less inhalation of hazardous media components that may cause allergic reactions and minimizing contamination of the work environment. All Merck media are quality controlled to comply with stringent standards. This guarantees the high consistency of our products.
