General description

This product has been discontinued.

Recognizes the ~53 kDa Desmin protein in muscle cells and tissue. Does not cross-react with other classes of intermediate filaments.

Purified mouse monoclonal antibody generated by immunizing mice with the specified immunogent and fusing splenocytes with PAI mouse myeloma cells (see application references). Recognizes the ~53 kDa Desmin protein.

Immunogen

Human

Application

Frozen Sections (1-5 µg/ml, see application references)

Immunoblotting (1-5 µg/ml, see application references)

Immunocytochemistry (1-5 µg/ml, see application references)

Paraffin Sections (1-10 µg/ml, heat pre-treatment required, see application references)

Physical form

Lyophilized from 20 mM NH₄HCO₃, 100 µg BSA.

Preparation Note

We recommend resuspending the lyophilized antibody with sterile phosphate buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.4, or sterile 20 mM Tris-saline (20 mM Tris containing 0.15 M NaCl), pH 7.4, to yield a final concentration of 100 µg/ml. Lyophilized antibodies should be resuspended at 4°C with occasional gentle mixing for at least 2 h. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles. Antibody should be titrated for optimal results in individual systems.

Analysis Note

Negative Control
Epithelial cells or tissue
Positive Control
Muscle cells or tissue

This antibody stains intermediate filaments found in skeletal, visceral and vascular smooth muscle cells, as well as those found in certain established cell lines such as the human rhabdomyosarcoma line (see application references). Desmin is also found in rhabdomyosarcoma biopsies, and is positively stained in smaller, round cells, which are difficult to judge histologically as rhabdomyosarcoma. Does not recognize other classes of intermediate filament proteins (see application references). Antibody should be titrated for optimal results in individual systems.
