      DescriptionMouse monoclonal antibody purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and protein A chromatography. Recognizes the ~110-135 kDa amyloid precursor (APP) protein.
      BackgroundAmyloid β protein (or A4) is the major protein subunit of amyloid fibrils and deposits characteristic of the neurodegenerative disorder Alzheimer's disease. The 4.5 kDa A4 protein is derived from proteolytic cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Three types of APPs (APP695, APP751, APP770), derived from mRNAs generated by alternatively spliced transcripts, are reported. The primary structure of APP695 (the 695 residue polypeptide) indicates that it is a glycosylated protein that spans the membrane once and has a large extracellular domain and a small cytoplasmic domain. The A4 protein, comprised of residues 597-638 of APP695, includes 28 residues from the extracellular domain and 14-15 residues from the transmembrane domain. This monoclonal anti-APP antibody is specific for human APP.
