PELP1 functions as scaffolding protein and mediates protein–protein interactions in cellular processes involving both genomic and extranuclear signaling pathways. Multiple structural domains allow PELP1 to interact with various steroid receptors (SRs) to modulate their activity as either corepressor or coactivator. Dysregulation of PELP1 expression has been observed in breast, ovarian, endometrial, brain, and prostate cancers.
