      SynonymsPhospho-dopamine- and cAMP-regulated Phosphoprotein
DescriptionRecombinant, rat DARPP-32 expressed in E. coli and phosphorylated on Thr34 by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). Serves as an important component of dopaminergic function in the brain. Acts as a potent inhibitor of protein phosphatase 1 (IC50 = ~1 nM). It is dephosphorylated and inactivated by calcineurin and protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in vitro. Also, found in the kidney where it participates in the regulation of the phosphorylation state of Na+,K+ -ATPase and control of salt balance. In adipocytes, it plays a role in adipogenesis and insulin signaling by maintaining low PP1 activity.
