グリコールアルデヒドダイマーは、1,2-ビス(2-ヒドロキシエチル)ヒドラジンを生成するための水素付加を受けることのできる、3,4-ジアザ-2-ヘキセン-1,6-ジオールの合成に使用できます。キラル触媒の存在下、2,3-ジヒドロフランで環化付加を受け、HIV プロテアーゼ阻害の重要な成分である、融合二環式テトラヒドロフラン（bis-THF）アルコールを生成します。
