General description

Synthetic, human calcitonin. A 32 amino acid peptide that is shown to stimulate bone formation and inhibit bone resorption.

Calcitonin is a single-chain peptide hormone of 32 amino acid residues with a disulfide bridge between cysteines at positions 1 and 7. It is produced in the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid gland and acts to stimulate bone formation by osteoblasts and inhibits bone resorption. Part of the effect of calcitonin appears to be mediated through increasing cAMP concentrations in osteoclasts.

Biochem/physiol Actions

血中カルシウムを低下させるホルモンであり、甲状腺の傍濾胞細胞および非哺乳類脊椎動物の後鰓体で産生されます。骨芽細胞や骨細胞による骨吸収抑制の結果、血中カルシウムやリン酸が低下します。

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 month at -20°C.
