General description

Activin receptor type-1C (UniProt: Q8NER5; also known as Activin receptor type IC (ACTR-IC), Activin receptor-like kinase 7 (ALK-7)) is encoded by the ACVR1C (also known as ALK7) gene (Gene ID: 130399) in human. Activin receptor–like kinase 7 (ALK7) is a transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily type I receptor serine/threonine kinase that functions as the signal-transducing subunit in heterotetrameric ligand–receptor assemblies with type II receptors (classically ACVR2A/ACVR2B) to activate SMAD2/3 transcriptional programs. As a canonical single-pass transmembrane receptor, ALK7 comprises an extracellular ligand-binding region, a transmembrane helix, and a cytosolic kinase domain whose activation depends on type II receptor phosphorylation and subsequent SMAD pathway engagement. ALK7 has emerged as an endocrine–metabolic rheostat with particularly prominent roles in adipocytes and pancreatic β cells. In adipose tissue, ALK7 signaling (engaged by ligands including activin B and activin E) promotes energy storage by suppressing β-adrenergic–stimulated lipolysis and adipocyte catabolic programs via SMAD2/3-dependent repression of adipogenic/lipolytic gene networks, whereas in β cells ALK7 is described as a negative regulator of β-cell function in the context of activin-family signaling.
Target molecular weight ~ 55 kDa observed. 54.871 kDa calculated. Uncharacterized bands may be observed in some lysate(s).

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to 17 amino acids from the N-terminal region of human ALK7.

Application

Anti-ALK7 is a rabbit polyclonal antibody that detects ALK7. It targets an epitope within 17 amino acids from the N-terminal region.
Evaluated by Western Blotting in rat brain tissue lysate. A 1:1,000 dilution of this antibody detected ALK7 in rat brain tissue lysate.

Tested Applications

Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:500 dilution from a representative lot detected ALK7 in human cortex, mouse brain and human brain tissue lysates.

Note: Actual optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user as specimens, and experimental conditions may vary with the end user.
