General description
TCF12, also known as HTF4, is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) E-protein family. TCF12 is a transcriptional regulator involved in the initiation of neuronal differentiation, and it has been shown to activate transcription by binding to the E box (5′-CANNTG-3′). TCF12 has been shown to interact with PTF1A, NEUROD2 and RUNX1T1. TCF12 is suggested to play a critical role in proper T cell differentiation by blocking the thymocyte proliferation in combination with E2A. Recent studies have shown that TCF12 is also an important factor required for the development of invariant natural killer T cells. TCF12 is expressed in many tissues, and more specifically in skeletal muscle, thymus, B- and T-cells.
~83 kDa observed. Uncharacterized bands may appear in some lysates. Uniprot describes 3 isoforms between ~55 kDa and ~76 kDa
