General description

A short chain fatty acid that has been shown to induce apoptosis in colon carcinoma cell lines by a p53-independent pathway. Inhibits c-myc splicing and interferes with signal transduction processes, including the release of Ca2+ from intracellular stores. Reduces histamine-induced calcium mobilization in C6 glioma cells. Down-regulates the activity of the serine/threonine protein kinase casein kinase II in HT29 cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cell permeable: no
Primary Target
Induce apoptosis
Product does not compete with ATP.
Reversible: no

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 months at -20°C.

NPJ Parkinson's disease, 8(1), 9-9 (2022-01-14)
Bowel inflammation, impaired intestinal epithelial barrier (IEB), and gut dysbiosis could represent early events in Parkinson's disease (PD). This study examined, in a descriptive manner, the correlation among enteric α-synuclein, bowel inflammation, impairments of IEB and alterations of enteric bacteria
