Biochem/physiol Actions

La aprotinina es un inhibidor competitivo de las proteasas de serina que forma complejos estables con la enzima y bloquea sus centros activos. La unión es reversible, y la mayor parte de los complejos aprotinina-proteasa se disociarán a niveles de pH extremo de >10 o <3. Desde el punto de vista estructural, la aprotinina es una proteína globular monómera procedente del pulmón bovino que consta de 58 aminoácidos dispuestos en una sola cadena polipeptídica con tres puentes disulfuro reticulantes.

Una unidad inhibidora de tripsina (TIU) disminuirá la actividad de dos unidades de tripsina en un 50%, donde una unidad de tripsina hidrolizará 1,0 μmol de N-alfa-benzoil-DL-arginina p-nitroanilida por minuto a un pH de 7,8 y 25 °C. Otra unidad comúnmente utilizada es la KIU, donde 1 TIU = 1300 KIU.
